AKAI looks set to relaunch itself in the UK with avengeance, if its new DVD
recorder is anything to go by.
The ADR-5800Di only costs a paltry £200, yet brings you all these cool features:
* multi-format recording - the deck can record to DVD-R/RW or +R/RW discs
* 8-hour LP recording (most competitors offer 6hr)
* PAL Progressive Scan component output
* RGB on SCART
* iLink/Firewire camcorder input for direct recording and editing from DV
camcorder
* Recordable Disc Formats : DVD +R, +RW, DVD -R, -RW (Video Mode & VR Mode)
* Playable Disc Formats : DVD +R, +RW ,DVD -R, -RW, DVD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-DA
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since Sony own Akai I'd be expecting a notch up in quality compared to the similar
Liteon (although the Liteon is fully fur-lined when it comes to multiple recoding
formats).

That should give the other official DVD members a kick up the arse for their
pricing.

I don't see this - what's wrong with the Panasonic E55, about UKP180?
I'd advise the E85 in any event at 315UKP.

don't even touch it, they are distributed by a South African own company
called Prima who make equally useless breadmakers

i think the name is used in a licensing deal, Akai make some good stuff in
the east which never reaches our shores under the Akai name

i bought a load of DVD players offthem a few year back 20% returns rate
