Hi all, I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but once
more to save searching through endless threads..

Recommended best purchase please for a HD/DVD recorder. Not overly
concerned about it being the cheapest, because I want to buy the right
one first time that is the most logical/other player & pc dvdr
compatible and easy to use.

So many opinions around, does anyone have the definitive machine at
this current time, or recommend a more suitable group/ review forum to
further enquire.

My PC DVD is a HP +RW if that's relevant as I suppose I could be
editing/transferring at some point hence compatability, I want
time-slip function, video+, a bloody good foolproof index
search/review facility, quick loading/eject and reliability with good
media tolerance.

We currently have a cheapo Asda Schneider DVD player which has served
us well which will be shifted to a second tv so again compatability
with the discs from the DVDR will be an issue again here.

Budget upto around £500 if necessary.

Would prefer to go to high street Comet(ish) type to capitalise on
Xmas 12mths 0% deals, but can pay cah to a retailer if necessary such
as Richer sounds etc.

Incidentally this is for UK use.

Over to you knowledgable types with my thanks in advance.

Seeeker.

I'm just about to buy one of these, and I'm going for the Philips HDRW720.

Not because it's the best - from the reviews I've read, that honour goes to
the Panasonics - all of 'em. But the Philips is the only one that connects
to my $ky Digibox and downloads the EPG, which can then be used to record
programs directly, making recording a one-stop shop, instead of having to
set the recorder up to record, and the digibox up to change channels.

Recommended best purchase please for a HD/DVD recorder.
Don't think HD-DVDs are available in this country yet.

Nah. I reckon he definitely wants a DVDR with an integral HD. Most of the
big names Panasonic, Phillips, Pioneer, Toshiba make them. Currently
available from about £350.

Probably not what you want to hear, but the best advice has got to be
to wait a bit longer till the prices start tumbling. As sales pick up
with the death of the VCR these things will halve in price - at the
very least. My guess is that they'll be half the current price within
a year.

Seeeker.
It would be worth while checking out the Sony and LG DVD recorders as
they can record on a wide range of DVD types (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R,
DVD+RW)
This can be useful as no one knows at this stage if the which disk
format will stay. It's a bit like the VHS tapes and the Beta tapes, in
the end VHS was here to stay.
